LAMA BREATHS
A Powerful Rejuvenation Practice

In Jewel in the Lotus, page 123, we present the Charging Breath to infuse the brain with energy. Here is a variation that develops good memory. (There are nine other transformative breaths in this series from Tibet, which we will share in time.)

Sit with spine erect, away from chair back, feet flat on the floor, heels and knees touching. Shoulders are relaxed, palms on thighs, head dropped forward. Only the head moves.

Inhale deeply through the nose as you slowly lift the head and drop it back. Perform diaphragm lock and root lock (Jewel, page 170). Without hesitation and holding tension, exhale and move the head back to the original position. Exhale forcefully through gently closed teeth and whistle-shaped lips.

Move smoothly, perfectly timed with the breath. Release the locks momentarily as you begin to inhale; lock them again at the end of the inhalation. Seven breaths is one group. Do seven groups. Then turn palms upwards and relax, feeling reverence for the life force moving in you.
